From the Principal

The path will range between 108 and 122 miles wide. It will be the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States until 2044.

A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. People viewing the eclipse from locations where the Moon’s shadow completely covers the Sun – known as the path of totality – will experience a total solar eclipse. The sky will become dark as if it were dawn or dusk. Weather permitting, people along the path of totality will see the Sun’s corona, or outer atmosphere, which is usually obscured by the bright face of the Sun. Read more about the 2024 total eclipse 2024.

While it will not be a total eclipse in Parker, the eclipse began around 11:25 am, with peak viewing at 12:41 pm, and ended around 1:57 pm. Viewing glasses were purchased so all staff and students could view the eclipse. Students who did not want to wear solar glasses were encouraged to view the eclipse by making a pinhole projector. A pinhole projector is made by punching a small hole in an index card to project an image of the sun onto a nearby surface.   Regardless of how students/staff chose to view the eclipse, teachers reinforced how to view a solar eclipse safely
