It is hard to believe that it is already May. At GVA-DC we are gearing up for the end of the year and making plans for summer learning! Read on for important information for the week of May 3 – May 7.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Our teachers change the lives of your children every day—and in a year where instruction could be virtual, in-person, or a mix of both, their immense work and impact have provided a much-needed sense of community and connection. At GVA-DC we will be celebrating teachers all week by providing them with food, fun, and gifts!
How can you express appreciation for a teacher who has educated and inspired your child? Here the National PTA offers ideas for parents, students, and schools to say a meaningful "thank you."
Huge Shout Out
Thank you to ALL of the Kindergarten Teachers for hosting three Experience Kindergarten events for our incoming Kinders and their parents! Over 75 future dragons took part in these events-each walking away with a story-based craft, new words in their immersion language, and smiles for miles! THANK YOU TEAM KINDIE!
Reminders
Please be sure that students are wearing uniforms to school every day including a GVA uniform top and khaki, navy or black bottoms. Bottoms should not be made out of a knit material. In addition, shoes should have a closed-toe to prevent injuries on the playground!
Summer Programs
Summer Tutoring
Individual emails were sent to all students recommended for tutoring in the areas of reading, writing and math. If you received an invitation, please RSVP ASAP to reserve a seat for your student in our summer tutoring program!
STARTALK/Language Camps
Thank you, parents! The response to our program has been fantastic! We will have openings but some sections are at capacity.

End of Year Testing
There is a TON of end-of-year testing going on this month- DIBELS, iReady, STAMP, DELF, HSK & YCT…OH MY!!! Please encourage your student(s) to do their very best on these assessments. We look forward to celebrating how much they have learned and grown this year!
