I enjoyed seeing all of the kids dressed-up and hearing the stories behind their costumes! However, as much as I enjoy the energy during spirit weeks, I am looking forward to a “regular” week!
At GVA-DC This Week
Cross Country Meet at GVA-DC
GVA-DC is hosting a cross country meet on Wednesday, October 9th! Hosting a meet of this size requires many volunteers and we still have several spots open! The Sign-up Genius for volunteers can be found on the Flyer App. These hours DO count towards volunteer hours! Contact Ms. Erickson for further questions!
Winter Weather is on the Way
Following is the GVA-DC recess policy:
The American Academy of Pediatrics believes that recess is a crucial and necessary component of a child’s development. Recess serves as a necessary break from the rigors of concentrated, academic challenges in the classroom. In addition, safe and well-supervised recess offers cognitive, social, emotional, and physical benefits.
Outdoor Recess: Unless the temperature is less than 23 degrees including wind-chill and/or conditions of precipitation are present, students will go outdoors for recess. Please ensure students are dressed appropriately for the weather.
Indoor Recess: When the temperature is less than 23 degrees including wind-chill and/or conditions of precipitation are present, students will have indoor recess. During indoor recess, students engage in 10 minutes of physical activity followed by free choice from the “activity box”. Indoor recess activity boxes are full of games, puzzles, cards and coloring pages.
As you are aware, there is an election around the corner. In addition to two important state-wide propositions (see Colorado's 2019 Blue Book), there are three Douglas County Board of Education Director positions on the ballot. Elections matter, and I want to personally encourage every parent to do your research, get involved, and, most importantly, cast your vote.
The Alliance of Douglas County Charter Schools is hosting a forum for the six candidates for the Douglas County Board of Education on Thursday, October 10 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Parker Performing Arts School. The forum is being moderated by two charter leaders - Teri Aplin from Parker Core Knowledge and Steve Colella, American Academy Deputy Executive Director of Schools.
Please RSVP and submit questions for the candidates!
Thank you for supporting the Dragon Fun Run! Student’s pledges are due Friday, October 11th. Students should turn in their pledges in the collection envelopes provided to them on Friday following the Fun Run. Collection envelopes should be given to student’s AM teacher.
Fun Run Prize Day
Fun Run Prize Day is October 29th!
- Student-led Conferences are scheduled for Monday, October 14th and Tuesday, October 15th from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm.
- In the student-led conference format, students and teachers prepare together, and then students lead the conference while teachers facilitate.
- During the conference, the triad then sits together to review and discuss sample student work and academic progress.
Teachers are creating sign-up geniuses with time slots that best meet the needs of their families. Sign-up geniuses will be emailed to parents and posted on the Flyer App. However, if you are unable to attend fall conferences, students will have access to their conference materials after fall break to discuss with parents at home.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are planning on being out of town October 14th – 15th, you will NOT have the opportunity to reschedule your conference. Please email your student’s teacher with questions or concerns to be addressed during the regular school day.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
