School Counselor

Hi! I am Kim Frost, and I am the school counselor at GVA Douglas County.

A little about me. I am the proud mother of a 21-year-old son, Brodrick, and my favorite is spending time with him. I also love watching football, traveling, and hanging out with my friends and dog. I have lived in Denver for 8 years, and Colorado is definitely home:)

I have been a school counselor for over 10+ years and in the field of education for my entire career, including Autism Therapy and Behavioral Interventionist. I graduated with my BS in Psychology from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, and my MS in Psychology/School Counseling from Utah State University. I have dedicated my career to helping students who may be struggling with social and/or emotional issues, and I feel passionate that every child can be successful if provided with the appropriate resources and support.

Please email me any time with questions or concerns!

The school counselor is here to support every single student in the building! The counselor does the following:

  • Teaches classroom lessons to all students about a variety of social-emotional topics
  • Runs group counseling activities to support student growth
  • Performs individual student planning to help students with goal setting, understanding their interests and skills, and achieving their potential
  • Provides brief, solution-focused individual counseling to support the academic, social-emotional success
  • Provides support during crises
  • Collaborates with school staff, families, and community agencies to support students
  • Provides referrals for appropriate community resources
The school counselor does not:
  • Take disciplinary action with students
  • Only provide career guidance
  • Tell parents or teachers what to do
  • Provide long-term therapy

The Zones of Regulation is a complete social-emotional learning curriculum created to teach children self-regulation and emotional control.

The students are learning how to not only recognize their feelings and what zone they are operating in but also practice and decide on individualized strategies to help them return to a place of calm and focus where learning is optimal.
