“School nurses influence wellness and disease prevention practices in our communities now more than ever during these changing times.” -NASN Executive Director Donna Mazyck, MS, RN, NCSN.
According to the National Association of School Nurses, school nurses have the knowledge and skills to plan and implement care for students with chronic and medically complex conditions and prepare school staff to recognize and respond appropriately to potential emergencies. Prevention is key in school wellness and safety, and planned emergency response and disaster preparedness in schools require the expertise of school nurses.
GVA Douglas County has been very blessed this year to have two amazing health professionals supporting our school and bridging health care and education to maximize our student’s potential. On behalf of the staff and students at GVA-DC,
I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Nell Nelson, School Nurse and
Katie McGrogan, Health Assistant.
In addition we would like to extend our appreciation to all of those health care workers on the front lines who are working so tirelessly to help us during this pandemic.
