At Global Village Academy Douglas County (GVA-DC), we are committed to fostering an environment where students are encouraged to be Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn.

We achieve this through our Positive Behavior Reinforcement system, guiding students toward success in various settings, including the cafeteria.

Our students, from Kindergarten through 6th grade, are divided into five lunch groups:

  • 5th & 6th Grade
  • 3rd & 4th Grade
  • Kindergarten
  • 1st Grade
  • 2nd Grade

Here are the behavior expectations we encourage during lunch:

  • Respectful: Use voices at level “1-2”, practice good table manners, and sit at your class table(s).
  • Responsible: Come prepared for lunch and recess, clean up your eating area, report messes, take only what you ordered, and eat your own food.
  • Ready to Learn: Keep eyes forward in the lunch line, eat in a timely manner, raise your hand for dismissal, and sit at the waiting table until called.

To motivate students to meet these expectations, we have introduced the Golden Spatula Reward System.

Each class sits at their designated table with their teacher’s name displayed in the front and the cafeteria expectations on the back. The lunch supervisor gives tally marks for each positive behavior demonstrated. At the end of each group’s lunch period, the class with the most tally marks is awarded the Golden Spatula for that group.

For every Golden Spatula earned, the class also receives a certificate. By the end of each month, the class that collects the most certificates in their group will win a special celebration. These rewards include:

  • Short Movie Day with Popcorn
  • Extra Recess Day
  • Outdoor Classroom – Learning outside in nature!
  • Popsicle Party – Sweet treats in the classroom.
  • Classroom Picnic – Snack outside while enjoying the fresh air.
  • Free Choice Time – 20-30 minutes of choice activities such as reading, drawing, or crafting.
  • Chalk Drawing Outside – Chalk drawing on the blacktop
  • Comfy Reading Day – Relax with 20-30 minutes of reading time, using pillows and blankets (no toys).

We look forward to seeing our students thrive as they learn, grow, and demonstrate positive behavior in our school community!
