Dear GVA-DC Families,
As we move through the school year, I’d like to emphasize the importance of healthy habits, particularly when it comes to eating. A balanced diet is vital to your child’s energy, concentration, and overall well-being throughout the school day.
Breakfast: Kickstart the Day Right!
Breakfast is essential to starting the day right. Be sure to establish a morning routine that leaves time for your students to enjoy a nutritious breakfast before they head to school. Starting the day with a nutritious meal helps children maintain focus, participate actively in class, and perform better on tasks requiring memory and concentration. A healthy breakfast can also stabilize energy levels and mood, reducing distractions caused by hunger or fatigue.
Lunch: Healthy School Meals for All
We’re excited to participate in the Healthy School Meals for All program, offering free lunch to all students at GVA Douglas County. For younger students, please ensure they know whether they will purchase a school lunch or bring a home-packed meal. Additionally, please help them understand the difference between their lunch and AM/PM snacks. You can review the monthly lunch menu on our school website to help your child decide whether to opt for the free school lunch or bring a home-packed option for each day.
Snack Purchases During Lunchtime
At GVA-DC, we encourage students to eat their lunch first, whether a school-provided meal or a packed lunch from home. If time allows, students can purchase one snack from our kitchen manager after finishing lunch. Please note that snack purchase days may vary by grade, depending on the number of students in each lunch group. If you’re comfortable with your child purchasing snacks, please ensure their lunch account has sufficient funds. You can manage their account through MySchoolBucks, an online payment portal designed to make easy payments to school accounts.
