Dear GVA-DC Parents,
As the weather turns colder, we want to remind you of our guidelines for outdoor recess, severe weather closures, and uniform expectations.
Outdoor Recess and Cold Weather Preparation
Recess is an important part of our school day, providing students with a needed break, an opportunity for informal and structured play, and a positive outlet for energy. All recess periods are fully supervised. Students will be expected to go outside for recess unless the temperature is below 23°F or if precipitation conditions prevent outdoor play. To help your child enjoy outdoor time comfortably, please dress appropriately with winter coats, hats, mittens, or gloves. All items should be labeled with your child’s first and last name.
Uniform Reminders
- Students should wear tennis shoes every day for safety and comfort.
- Snow boots are welcome for outdoor use, but please provide a change of shoes for indoor activities.
- Jackets and sweaters worn indoors must be a solid color and display the GVA-DC logo.
- Outdoor gear, such as winter coats and snow boots, does not need the school logo.
Severe Weather Closures and Delays
GVA-DC follows the severe weather schedule of Douglas County Public Schools (DCSD). If DCSD announces a 90-minute delay or closure, GVA-DC will do the same. If GVA-DC is on a delayed start or closed due to inclement weather, Innovation Learning will also be closed.
Notification Process
Notifications regarding severe weather closures or delays will be sent through our messaging system linked to Infinite Campus. Please check your Parent Portal to ensure all contact information is up-to-date. Additionally, you can watch or listen to local news channels, check our website, and stay updated through our social media channels and mobile app.
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe, comfortable, and prepared for the colder months. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Warm regards,
Stacy Bush,Principal, GVA Douglas County
