Welcome Back, Global Village Families!
I hope you all enjoyed your extended weekend and made the most of your snow days! You should have received multiple communications from both me and the Douglas County School District (DCSD) regarding the snow days. If you didn’t receive these messages, please check your parent portal account to ensure your contact information is correct.
As we transition into colder days and shorter daylight, here are a few important reminders:
Winter Weather Reminders
- Plan for Early Departures: Please plan to leave for school a little early on cold days. Roads can be icy, and traffic may be unpredictable, so give yourself extra time to ensure an on-time arrival. Remember, classroom instruction begins at 8:00 am, and every minute late means lost learning time for your child.
- Timely Pick-Up: School ends at 3:30 pm, and children should be picked up by 4:00 pm at the latest. We’ve only had three days this year where all students were picked up on time! When students remain after 4:00 pm, staff must supervise them, which can interfere with scheduled meetings and family responsibilities. Please make punctuality a priority!
- Dressing for the Cold: Make sure your child is dressed appropriately for winter weather, including hats, gloves, coats, and boots. Label all items with your child’s full name. On days when boots are required, please also send tennis shoes for them to wear indoors. Weather permitting, we’ll go outside for recess most days!
- Uniform and Dress Code Reminders: Students should wear navy blue, khaki, or black bottoms, a uniform top, and tennis shoes each day. Please avoid fashion shoes and jeans. Any sweatshirts or sweaters worn inside the building must be a solid color with a GVA logo. No exceptions!
Thank You for a Wonderful Día de los Muertos Celebration!
A huge thank you to the amazing volunteers who helped make our Día de los Muertos Community Celebration at the PACE Center last Tuesday such a success. We had over 800 attendees, a fantastic turnout, and a great representation of our school community! Thank you for all your support in making this event so memorable!
Veterans Day: Honoring Our Heroes
Veterans Day, observed on November 11, is a time to honor America’s veterans for their service, sacrifice, and dedication. This day marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I, which took effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many for our country. A special thank you to all our family members who serve or have served in the military.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and for being such a vital part of our Global Village Academy community. Let’s continue working together to make this school year successful, safe, and memorable for all!
Warm regards,
Stacy Bush,
Principal, GVA Douglas County
