Remote learning starts Tuesday

Hello Families!

I know one of the big questions is what remote learning will look like starting Tuesday, March 24, 2020. For Monday I would suggest trying to get used to a schedule and different routine.  I will be posting an example schedule.  I am working on putting together things for the kids to work on each day to keep them engaged and to try to maintain some normalcy in some very unusual circumstances. One of the best things we can do for the kiddos is to keep them reading over this extended break from school.

Starting Tuesday, March 24, 2020, I will be sending a daily email every morning by 8 AM with different practice activities for the day, touching on each of our key areas - reading, writing, and social studies. I completely understand different levels of access to technology and the ability to print things at home. I am very flexible in how or to what extent things are completed. My goal is to continue to give the kids the opportunity to practice what we've been learning so they aren't rusty when we are all together back at school.

I will also send the entire sight word list we are working on this year which you can make flash cards from.  I would focus on one set at a time.  The goal in first grade is to be able to spell every word correctly and be able to read the word.  I also have some material on how to teach reading and writing.  If I send an entire packet I’ll let you know what parts to do and when.

Finally, I am also looking into possibly talking online with half of the class at a time using Zoom.  Smaller groups work best because it is easier to see everybody.   I would like to do our community circles time and give the students a chance to see each other and talk.  Please email if you are interested in having your students participate.  If you are sharing the computer with your child let me know if there is a time of day that works best and I will try to accommodate.

If you have any questions or concerns about anything, please never hesitate to reach out! I will do my best to support you and your family however I can. I am here for you and your kids (with respectful social distance 😉). Thank you for helping take care of our community, your kids, and yourselves through this difficult time.

Thanks,

Ms. Folkestad
