At GVA-DC, our students embody the spirit of dedication, leadership, and cultural engagement. During our Lunar New Year celebration at the PACE Center, our 5th-grade Mandarin students played an essential role by volunteering as event greeters, warmly welcoming attendees, and ensuring a smooth and festive experience.
One student, Ryan Roberts, a 5th-grade Mandarin learner, went above and beyond in his volunteer service. Ryan was stationed at the greeting post from 9:50 AM to 2:30 PM—nearly five hours—without taking a lunch break.
Mandarin teacher Tingting Chen highlighted Ryan’s exceptional dedication, recognizing his contributions as a shining example of leadership and service. “Ryan demonstrated remarkable commitment throughout the entire event. He stayed at his post for the entire duration, ensuring every guest felt welcomed,” she shared.
We are incredibly proud of Ryan and all our student, parent, and teacher volunteers who helped make the Lunar New Year celebration a memorable and meaningful experience for the community. Their involvement reflects the core values of Global Village Academy—cultural appreciation, community service, and leadership.
