Make Summer Count: Read, Win, and Help GVA-DC Earn $500!

Reading every day during the summer helps you grow! Sign up for one (or more!) fun programs that give prizes as you read.


Douglas County Libraries

Summer reading is abuzz with exciting activities, prizes, and giveaways.

  • Help GVA win $500 by signing up for the DCL Summer Reading Challenge!*
  • Include our school name when you sign up!
  • The school with the most sign-ups by July 31 will be awarded $500. 
  • DCL suggests 1,000 minutes of reading as a worthy goal, but if this challenge isn’t right for you or your family, feel free to create your own challenge.
  • You can also do the supplemental activities we suggest on the reading log.
  • DCL is giving away three $500 Southwest Airlines gift cards to participants who sign up to read.

Parker Kids Corner - Parker Library (Douglas County Libraries)

Want to practice reading Spanish or start learning?

  • Join DCL every month to read and discuss a Spanish picture book and get creative with a fun activity.
  • All language levels, from beginner to Spanish speaker, are welcome.

Arapahoe Libraries

Spark your imagination this summer!

  • Visit your favorite Arapahoe Libraries location to pick up your Summer Reading activity guide, free water bottle, and book to keep.
  • Find events and activities at the library and online all summer long.
  • Complete activities in the guide to earn stickers.

Barnes and Noble

Participation is a fun and easy way for kids to earn free books.

  • Students (grades 1st-6th) read a designated number of books – library books, books borrowed from friends, or books bought at Barnes & Noble – write about their favorite part in our Reading Journal, and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore.
  • Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them during July and August. 

BOOK IT!®

It's a Summer of Stories™ for students in PreK-6th grades.

  • Use the BOOK IT!® Mobile App to set goals, track progress, and redeem rewards.
  • During June, July, and August, any child who meets their parent-set reading goals can earn a free Pizza Hut® single topping Personal Pan Pizza®* from participating locations.

* Limit of 5 Personal Pan Pizza® certificates per family, per month. One certificate may be earned per eligible child, per month, for meeting their reading goal.


Scholastic Summer Reading Program

  • Through September 12th, kids can visit the summer zone in Scholastic Home Base, a completely free digital destination that offers stories, characters, games, and a community of readers. Home Base is moderated for safety 24/7.
  • By creating an account on Home Base, kids can join a community of readers and will be able to read books and stories, attend author events, interact with their favorite characters, play book-based games and activities, join dance parties, and more.
