Welcome to First Grade!

Hello! My name is Grace Leitz, and I am excited to be your child's first-grade English teacher.

This is my eighth year of teaching. I earned my degree in Elementary Education with Reading Endorsements from Drury University and have taught students in grades K–5 in both Missouri and Colorado. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, golfing, skiing, watching sports, and traveling. My husband and I love exploring new places, and our most recent adventure was a trip to Argentina!

Our goal in first grade is to create a positive, supportive classroom where every student feels valued, confident, and motivated to learn. Throughout the year, your child will engage in a variety of learning experiences. In English Language Arts, we will focus on building strong readers and writers by developing phonemic awareness, strengthening phonics skills, improving reading comprehension, expanding vocabulary, and writing narrative, informative, and opinion pieces. In Social Studies, students will explore civics, geography, history, and economics while developing a deeper understanding of the world around them.
