Be prepared to orally present the information in your essay while displaying your visual presentation.

Attach your informational essay to this assignment.

Write a summary for the story excerpt.  Remember the following:

A summary is a retelling of the important details of a text in order.

Include:
-Who the text is about
-What happens
-When and where it happens
-Why or how it happens
-Transition words (first, next, then)

Don't Include:
Your opinion
Information from other sources

Your summary should be 5-8 sentences long.

Complete pages 48-52 (topic, questions, and research) for your Earth's Structures Multimedia presentation in your packet.

In “Shiloh” by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, Marty must make a difficult decision about whether Shiloh should stay with him or return to his owner, Judd Travers.
Write an argumentative essay explaining whether Marty made the right choice about Shiloh. Take a clear position and argue why you believe his decision was right or wrong.
Be sure to:
Clearly state your opinion (claim) in the introduction

Use details and events from the story to support your argument

Explain how your evidence supports your opinion

Include a conclusion that restates your opinion

Your goal is to convince the reader that your opinion is correct using evidence from the story.

Part 1: Setting Swap Diorama

Create a diorama that shows one scene from the book when the setting is completely different.

Roll to find which setting you will be required to do:


1. 🌊 – The story takes place beneath the ocean

2. 🌕 – Low gravity, space technology, and isolation

3. 🌆 – A high-tech or dystopian urban setting

4. 🛒 – A story that unfolds entirely in a grocery store

5. 🌴 – Dense jungle, wildlife, and limited human structures

6. 🕰️ – The story takes place in the past or far future



Your diorama should clearly show:

How the scene is different from the original story
How the events/characters changed because of the new setting

Part 2: Plot Change Summary

Write a paragraph or two explaining:

How the story is different in this new setting
What new obstacles or advantages the characters experience
How the events of the story changes or, could stay the same
Be sure to refer to characters, conflicts, or events from the original book.
Expectations

Diorama is neat, creative and effort is clearly shown
Ideas are creative but logical for the chosen setting
Writing shows clear understanding of the original story
Objective: Demonstrate how setting influences plot and character development.

In "Paul Revere's Ride" what is one theme found in the poem is heroism.  Cite text evidence to support this answer. 

Teacher example:
One theme found in "Paul Revere's Ride" is patriotism joins people together to fight for their country. From stanza 5 it states, "The fate of the nation was riding that night; and the spark that struck out by that steed, in his flight, kindled the land into flame with its heat." This shows patriotism because Revere's famous ride warned and stirred up the colonists and militia so they could fight the British soldiers for their freedom.
