In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, several important themes are developed, such as loyalty, the struggle between social classes, the importance of identity, and the idea that people are more alike than different.
Choose one theme from the novel and write an argumentative essay explaining how S.E. Hinton develops this theme throughout the story. Your essay should make a clear claim about the theme and argue why it is an important message of the novel.
Be sure to:
Clearly state your claim about the theme in your introduction

Use specific evidence from the text (events, characters, or quotations) to support your argument

Explain how your evidence proves your claim

Write a conclusion that restates your argument and explains why the theme matters
