From the Principal

At Global Village Academy- Douglas County we appreciate all that our school community is doing to keep our students and staff healthy and safe. One of the best things we can continue to do is to use the symptom checklists daily to determine when a staff member or child needs to stay at home. We recommend erring on the side of caution when determining whether or not to keep your child- home from school, and contacting your family doctor with health related questions.

Any student or staff diagnosed with COVID-19 or who is a close contact of a COVID-19 case should not go to school and should isolate or quarantine according to public health recommendations regardless of current symptoms. In addition, we request that students and or staff contact the school with both suspected cases and positive and negative test results. This information is shared with Tri-County Health and is used to determine the Protocols for Student and Staff isolation and Quarantine.

Recently, the Protocols for Students and Staff Isolation, Quarantine and Outbreaks have been updated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. At GVA-DC we follow the guidelines as set forth by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and Tri-County Health. See our website for more information.

UPDATES

WHERE IS ALL OF THE CHOCOLATE MILK?
DCSD Food Services is currently out of chocolate milk. In addition, they are running short on white milk. The shortage is due to the demand created by providing free lunches to ALL students. As an alternative to milk, students will be able to choose bottled water. Beginning Monday, students in grades 4 and 5 will be able to purchase large Tropicana juice for $1.50.

FUN RUN PRIZE DAY
The Prize Day for the Fun Run is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28th. In the event of inclement weather, Prize Day will be rescheduled for Monday, November 2nd

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES??
This year we are celebrating Di de los Muertos instead of Halloween. Students will not be wearing Halloween costumes to school however, they will be encouraged to dress up in Day of the Dead attire (face painting will be allowed!) Information and ideas to support classroom celebrations will be forthcoming.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

RECESS
  • Outdoor Recess: Unless the temperature is less than 23 degrees including wind-chill and/or conditions of precipitation are present, students will go outdoors for recess. Please ensure students are dressed appropriately for the weather.
  • Indoor Recess: When the temperature is less than 23 degrees including wind-chill and/or conditions of precipitation are present, students will have indoor recess. During indoor recess, students engage in 10 minutes of physical activity followed by classroom-based activities,

PARKING LOT
Please refrain from parking in the Handicap parking spaces in front of the school. In addition to it being unlawful to park in these spaces without a handicap parking placard or license plate, we have several wheelchair-bound students whose parents require access to these spots!

Please exercise caution when in the parking lot. Excessive speeds and distracted driving have contributed to several near-miss collisions (and a hit-and-run with a staff member’s car!)

Thank you again for partnering with us to provide a safe learning environment for staff and students! Stay safe and warm!

Warmly,

Stacy Bush
