From the Principal

Therefore, it is imperative that our Global Village Academy- Douglas County families do their part this Thanksgiving break to help ensure that our school community does not see a rise in COVID-19 cases in the coming weeks.

Here are a few things you and your family can do to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 over Thanksgiving vacation:

  • Wear face coverings and practice social distancing while in public.
  • Practice good hand hygiene (wash hands often for at least 20 seconds) and/or use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid large gatherings, especially those taking place indoors. This is one of the largest contributors to the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Tri-County Heath and the CDC recommends limiting gatherings to 10 people or less from no more than 2 different families.
  • Limit the number of people you interact with on a daily basis as much as possible.
  • When you are sick, get tested for COVID-19 and isolate yourself from others, including other household members.
  • If you do test positive, please cooperate with the public health workers who will be contacting you to aid in preventing further spread.

And, perhaps most importantly, after Thanksgiving break if you, or a member of your household is not feeling well or is exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19, please do not go to school or work

We hope to return to in-person learning after Thanksgiving vacation, but we want to be sure we do so safely. The health and safety of our students and staff is our number one priority! The GVA-DC Board and I will be making the decision about whether to return to learning in-person or remotely during Thanksgiving break. In preparation, we are asking families to be prepared for either outcome.

Thank you to our amazing GVA-DC staff, especially our teachers, who have dedicated so much time and effort into preparing for both in-person and remote learning.  The transition to remote learning this past week has been (for the most part) seamless. And, thank you to our parents and guardians for supporting your children on this journey. We know this has not been easy! You are doing an amazing job and together we will succeed in ensuring that each of our students receives the high-quality public education that they deserve.

Wishing you a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday!
