From the Principal

To start the year off on the right foot, we are encouraging ALL families to join us on Thursday, August 12th for “Meet the Teacher”
 
  • Families with last names beginning with A-L are invited to join us from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and
  • Families with last names beginning with M-Z are invited to attend from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.  
 
This year we will be hosting “Meet the Teacher” outside behind the school building. 
 
  • Volunteers will be on hand to provide families with their passports to the event which identifies all of the tasks that need to be accomplished in addition tomeeting teachers. 
  • Families will receive a stamp on their passport after visiting all of the following “stations”. 
  • Completed passports can be turned in at the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) table in exchange for an icy treat. 
  • In addition, all completed passports will be entered into a drawing for fabulous prizes including 2 family 4-packs of day passes to Disneyland!!!

Materials Fees
  • In addition to school supplies, each student is required to pay a Materials Fee of $150 per year. 
  • Materials fees can be paid in one lump sum or spread out over three payments. 
  • Materials Fees help to cover costs associated with curriculum, support, and classroom technology. 
  • Payment can be made by clicking here.
  • Payments can also be paid in person at Meet the Teacher Night.
  • Families who qualify for Free or Reduced lunch need to submit their approval letter from DCSD to have their Materials Fees waived.
  • Materials fees are non-refundable
 
QR Codes/Pick-up and Drop-off Information
  • Each family new to GVA-DC will be issued a sheet of QR codes and a family number.  
  • Returning families can use the codes from previous years.  
  • Pick-up and Drop-off information will also be available. 
 
Health Aide/Nurse
  • Sintia Palma, Health Aide, will be on hand to accept student medications, immunization forms and answer questions about the Health Clinic. 
 
School Counselor
  • What does a School Counselor do? Stop by to learn how Ms. Weiss supports every student in the building!
 
Before and After School Programs
 
Innovation Learning
  • Innovation Learning is an extended learning provider, offering before and after school programs from 6:30 am – 6:00 pm and vacation camps. 
  • Innovation Learning’s program focuses on recreation, academics and fun, by engaging students in using problem-solving skills, cultivating creativity, and building their capacity for innovation.
  • Stop by and take advantage of their early bird registration special!!
 
We encourage ALL FAMILIES to register with Innovation Learning. While you may not use Before and Aftercare on a regular basis, it is a great backup/emergency plan!!
 
ENCORE
  • ENCORE is Global Village Academy's after-school enrichment program. Classes take place from 3:45 PM to 4:45 PM on the GVA-DC campus.
  • Students can participate in a wide variety of classes-stop by and see what classes are being offered this fall!
 
Nutrition Services
  • All lunch meals are free for the entire school year!!
  • Students must take a fruit or vegetable to make a reimbursable meal.
  • We will have additional ala carte items available for purchase which would include second entrees.

Parent Involvement Committee (PIC)
  • The Parent Involvement Committee (“PIC”) works with both families and staff to build a solid school community. 
  • Arranging events, volunteering, and contribution opportunities, the PIC will work toward raising additional school funds, while providing activities for all to enjoy. 
  • The strength of our school is only as strong as the parents that support it. Stop by and see how to get involved!

  • Excel Screen printing will be in the cafeteria from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm to fulfill your uniform (and Spirit Wear) needs. 
 
SCHOOL SUPPLIES! SCHOOL SUPPLIES! SCHOOL SUPPLIES! SCHOOL SUPPLIES!
  • If you have NOT already purchased school supplies, supply lists can be found here.
  • REMEMBER: your student will need supplies for both their English class (the first list after clicking on the grade level) AND their Immersion class (click on their immersion language). 
  • If you ordered an EduKit in time to have it delivered to the school, it will be dropped off at school and delivered to your student’s classrooms. 
  • Families are encouraged to drop off school supplies at “Meet the Teacher”. 
  • Please separate supplies into 2 containers/bags (one for English and one for Immersion) and CLEARLY LABEL each container with both the student’s and teacher’s name. 
  • Supplies can be dropped off in the cafeteria under the teacher’s sign.
