Welcome Back to School from the Parent Involvement Committee

Welcome to the GVA-DC Parent Involvement Committee!

What is the PIC?

The Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is the GVA-DC version of a PTO.
  • Any parent or guardian may be a member of the committee.
  • There are no membership dues.

PIC Objective
The objective of the Parent Involvement Committee (“PIC”) is to work with both families and staff to build a solid school community. By arranging events, volunteering, and contribution opportunities, the PIC will work toward raising additional school funds, while providing activities for all to enjoy. The strength of our school is only as strong as the parents that support it.

Purpose
The purpose of the organization is to support the education of children at Global Village Academy Douglas County (GVA-DC) by raising funds and fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers.

Volunteering at GVA Douglas County

If you have not done so already, please complete our Volunteer Interest Survey here. We will keep a record of the information to know where your interests lie, so that we may assist in matching you with volunteer opportunities. Also, we’d love to know if you have any particular skills or talents that you would be willing to share with the GVA-DC community.

Requirements
An important aspect of the GVA mission includes creating a school environment in which a partnership exists between the school and the families.

  • Each family is asked to donate 30 hours of service or the equivalent to the school every year.
  • A myriad of volunteer opportunities are available for families to fulfill this requirement, however, it is the responsibility of each family to find ways to meet the requirement.
  • Hours can be met through volunteer help in school, fundraising events, PIC meetings, and other committees.
  • In-kind donations and donations of items approved by school administration are accepted as service hours. You cannot earn volunteer hours by purchasing Scholastic books, Butter Braids, or through any other fundraiser, the school may have. Volunteer hours are earned through donations only, whether that be time or materials. ($10 = 1 volunteer hour)
  • Parents will be able to support their children and the school in meaningful ways while being valued as an integral part of the educational process.
  • Families are encouraged to give generously of their time and talents to GVA.
  • More details can be found in the Parent & Student Handbook.

Volunteer Code of Conduct

Please ensure anyone volunteering on behalf of your family reads the Volunteer Code of Conduct before volunteering.

  • This Code of Conduct is an unsigned agreement between the Parent, Carer, Visitor, and Global Village Academy Douglas County.
  • The purpose of this code of conduct is to provide the expectations around the conduct of all parents, carers, and visitors connected to our school.

2021-2022 Volunteer Log Submission

  • Each family is asked to donate 30 hours per school year or $10 = 1 hour.
  • All purchases must be verified with a receipt.
  • Log your hours here

Effortless Fundraising

Effortless fundraising is a way we raise money for Global Village Academy and for PIC without having to sell anything!

  • We do this by asking our school families to save items that they already have in their homes, use cards at stores where they already shop, or shop through our online links.
  • By the end of the school year, each family will have contributed* a few hundred dollars without giving up any extra time or money!
  • It’s a small act that can make a huge difference!
