Class Rules and Procedures

  • Daily schedule: Blue is AM/Red is PM
    • 7:45 - kids arrival duties, (Wash hands, get out Snack/Lunch and water, get Wake Up! work, sharpen pencils, ask questions and share important information with me.).
    • 8:00 - Morning pledge & announcements over intercom, Community Circle.
    • 8:10 -  Reading (Whole group and seatwork, phonics emphasized.)
      • 9:00 - Snack - Thank you for cooperating with my snack guidelines!9:10 -
    • 9:10 - Reading (Small group and Rotations with independent and skills work emphasized.)
    • 9:55 - Specials
    • 10:45 - Writing (Zones...on Monday's)
    • 11:25 - Social Studies
    • 11:45 - SWITCH to PM class ____________________________________________________________________________
    • 11:45 - Community Circle (Monday's; Zones of Regulation for 35 min.)
    • 11:55 -  Social Studies
    • 12:15 - Recess/Lunch
    • 1:05 - Reading (Whole group and seatwork, phonics emphasized.)
    • 2:05 - Reading - (Small group and Rotations with independent and skills work emphasized.)
    • 2:50 - Writing -
    • 3:25 - Wrap up, Clean up, Pack up, Snack, Dismiss
    • 3:30 - End of Day
    • 11:00 - *Rotations through Centers
      • Listening Center - Can be adapted to seasons, holidays,  topics, (poetry, non-fiction, Tall Tales, persuasive writing, books about friendship, health, etc.)
      • Independent Reading - Teacher provided books can be individualized to student reading level or free choice from the Library.  Teacher decides based on need.
      • Writing - Skills focused such as handwriting, sentence structure, (capitalization/punctuation/spelling, nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc)
      • Teacher Table - Individualized, personalized instruction based on student need.  Students may move in and out of groups based on demonstrated word decoding skills, comprehension, fluency and general reading/writing next steps.
      • Word Work - also called Table Work because students often do the work on their own.  Clipboards can also be utilized for this.

 

  • My Behavior Expectations
    • Students will be Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Learn
  • Zones of Regulation - social/emotional curriculum designed to teach students how to recognize their own feelings, use tools to manage their feelings in a timely so that they can return to learning and interpret the actions of others, and interact with others in a way that strengthens their empathy, sympathy and ability to cooperate with others.

  • My Classroom Expectations
    • Students will learn routines, procedures and jobs, and perform them to the best of their ability.   
    • Students will do their own work to the best of their ability. 
    • Students will have a growth mindset, not giving up but trying again, with help if needed.

  • Homework
    • Read 10-20 minutes every night, with help at the beginning, and just for fun once students' independence is achieved. Fill out the Reading Minutes chart with numbers, (1-100), for an extra dip in the Prize Box. Go to 200 etc. for Bragging Rights, (Posted in the Hall or Classroom).
    • Unfinished work - If it comes home in backpack during the week, especially if it has a sticky note, it needs to be finished asap because the knowledge/understanding is pertinent to what we are doing that week.
    • Sight words and math facts twice a week for 5 minutes. These can be purchased very inexpensively in most grocery stores, Dollar stores, Walmart, etc.
