Last week we continued to learn about words with blends, started to finish up making our books, did a little learning about inferring, and learned a little bit about Washington, D.C.
Please remember to read daily. Fluency can count towards that goal and for my in person class when it's turned in they get a Golden Ticket. Please remember to also be playing games to learn Balls Sight Word list.
Remember this week we have a half day on Thursday with Madagascar International Day and no school on Friday.
Spring conferences will be coming up on March 11 and 12. I will be sending out a sign-up soon to everyone through SignUp Genius. Quite a few of your students are doing fine and I have no concerns. If I send a second email encouraging, you to sign up for conferences then please do.
Also, my afternoon class will be doing our International Day on April 2. We are doing an Aboriginal dance. Please start to collect a tan shirt and white makeup for the face.
Thanks,

January 29, 2021
This week we learned about words with oa in them, learned how to write letters, and learned a little bit about the editing process in informational writing. We also reviewed nouns, verbs, and adjectives.
Dance Winners
A shout out to my virtual class! We were one of the winners of the dance off. We will talk more on Monday!
Scores sent
Please look for Dibels and i-Ready scores that I sent home today. I hope to do some goal setting with i-Ready with the students soon. Thank you to those of you who logged in today to complete your i-Ready lessons. I have seen fewer students logging in since the start of the year. I know this has been a very tough year and we are all tired. However, completing these lessons will really help shrink the academic gap COVID has caused. You don’t have to do these on Friday, but please do them at least once a week please log in for at least 15 minutes for Reading. If you are in my virtual class and I assign this to complete before we meet, please do so.
Valentine’s Day
My in-person class will have our party on Thursday, February 11, 2021. I will plan to collect paper Valentine’s Monday-Thursday so they will have some time to sanitize. Students will clean their hands before passing them out on Thursday. Remember to just write who the cards are “from” and not to fill in the “to” portion because it takes much longer to pass them out.
Virtual families have already received a flyer about our plan.

This week we learned about words that have the long I sound when using the letters igh together. We also learned a little about Martin Luther King Jr. and how to write a conclusion when writing an informational piece. We also started reviewing nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Today we learned about Greece during our International Day.
Please remember to do i-Ready on Friday’s and read throughout the week using the fluency sheet and READ-O Board.
Please remember to collect white pop bottle tops and send them to school for a game I am making.
This following week is School of Choice please be on the lookout for a special message from Mrs. Bush.
A friendly reminder we have started selling delicious Butter Braids.

Welcome back!
This week we learned about words with ea, started to learn about verb tenses, and read Sneezy the Snowman with a sequencing activity.
During the week please remember to do the two sided reading fluency sheet for homework. In person students will earn a Golden Ticket for a completed sheet.
Remember virtual students who complete the bingo choice board earn something from my prize box.
Today I sent home Scholastic book orders. All ordering is done online using our class code TXJ7J. Scholastic has agreed to mail books to your home. If your order is over $25 shipping is free and if your order is less they can mail it for $6.50. If you are at all interested there are books I recommend for students as well as a classroom wish list.
Please remember on Friday afternoons to do i-Ready lessons. My suggestion is at least 15 minutes on reading and 15 minutes on math.
If anyone has white pop bottle caps, please collect and bring them in. I need them for a vowel team activity I am in the middle of making for our Word Work center.
Thanks,
Ms. Folkestad

Thank you for working with me on getting our assessments done for the middle of the year. I am pleased to say we are done with Dibels testing for the middle of the year. Reports will be sent home in January. I am very happy with the growth I am seeing overall. Thank you for working with your students at home!
Please continue to do the fluency reading sheets and keep up with Raz-Kids. I adjusted a few levels on RazKids for students this morning. I need to test every student separately. It works well if you log in and wait for me to let in one student at a time. I will have some assignments up in Google Classroom for the students to work on so learning can still take place as I test for the day. Some students have already done their testing so hopefully, we get through everyone by the end of the 14th.

October 30, 2020
This week we learned about the –ub word family, started to learn about adjectives, and learned about The Day of the Dead traditions. We also continued to write and expand our personal stories.
A reminder that book orders are due today. Books that students enjoy can make good holiday gifts. If you don’t know what they enjoy ask them. This year Scholastic can send books to your home if the order is at least $25. This is the last time I will do a class order due to shipping and the craziness of the holidays.
